Tamara Fonseca is a certification analyst at Control Union Certificates - Brazil, assisting in sustainability certification processes for agro-systems (Aquaculture and Agriculture). She also serves as a volunteer board member at ETHOS – Earth Ocean Food Systems. Tamara holds a Ph.D. in Aquaculture from São Paulo State University (UNESP) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship with the European Union's Aquavitae Program, where she assessed the sustainability of low-trophic and Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) systems. Additionally, she has taught courses in Ecology, Environmental Education, and Fundamentals of Science Teaching for over a year. She was also a researcher on a project funded by the Brazilian National Council of Research (CNPq), aimed at monitoring and reducing plastic pollution in the ocean.
With 10 years of experience in academic and applied research, Tamara has developed analytical, innovative, and interdisciplinary skills in sustainability assessment, sustainable development, and the ecological economics of socio-environmental systems, particularly aquaculture systems. She has published several articles and reports on these topics and is passionate about finding science-based solutions that enhance human-nature relationships while promoting the sustainable use, conservation, and restoration of natural resources. She has also honed her ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, including non-profit organizations, public authorities, and rural communities.
