Cleaner Production in Brazil

For organizing the Cleaner Production and Eco-Efficiency National Policy, the MMA - Ministry of the Environment -, by means of the Environmental Quality Secretary, developed the following actions:

- Institution of the Cleaner Production Managing Committee - CGPL, under administrative directive MMA nº 454, of 11/28/2003, assigning representatives in accordance with administrative directive MMA nº 54, of 03/19/2004;

- Organization of Public-Private Discussion Forums, in five regions of the country, to raise expectations and subsidies for the organization of National Policies. In the Southeastern Region, the event was organized by the Paulista Cleaner Production Roundtable in April, the 13 th and the 14 th , 2004;

At the moment, the MMA is fomenting the creation of cleaner production forums to consolidate the Brazilian Cleaner Production and Eco-Efficiency Network, as part of the National Policy.

For this, the Paulista Roundtable was chosen as model and, with the support of GTZ and consent of CETESB, presented São Paulo 's forum in the following states: Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Amazonas, Rio de Janeiro , Bahia, Pernambuco, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.

As a result, cleaner production forums had been installed in all those states, with Goiás and Alagoas already demanding to join the national network.
