Conference Title: From Net-Zero to Net-Positive: Digital Product Passports as the Backbone of Regenerative Systems in the Water-Energy-Material Nexus [abstract]

 

Alireza Moghayedi, PhD, MCIOB, FEHA, leads the Digital Built Environment Research Theme at the University of the West of England’s Faculty of Environment and Technology (UK). Holding a PhD in Construction Economics and Management (2019), MSc in Civil Engineering/Transportation (2013), MSc in Construction Management (2010), and BSc in Civil Engineering (2004), he drives strategic innovation at the intersection of engineering and sustainability.

 

As Lead Researcher at UWE and Co-Director of SOCUBE at the University of Cape Town (2020–present), he has managed high-impact academic teams across the UK, South Africa, Philippines, and Iran. Prior roles include Senior Lecturer (UWE), Senior Research Officer (UCT), and Programme Coordinator (Far Eastern University), scaling research and education initiatives globally.

 

In executive industry roles, he served as Chief Operating Officer at FAAM Innovation & Research Consulting (2019–present), Director II at Iran’s Ministry of Road and Urban Development (2014–2015), Director at the Asian Development Bank’s PPP Office (2010–2014), and General Manager at Alborz Construction (2009–2011), optimizing operations and public-private partnerships.

 

C2-accredited by the South African NRF, he has secured over £5M in funding as PI/PM/Co-I, including UKRI’s net-zero project (£120k, 2026), TransNet decarbonisation (£5M, 2023), and Royal Academy of Engineering grants. His focus: digital twins, net-zero housing, and resilient infrastructure in the Global South, bridging academia, industry, and policy for economic and sustainable impact.
